Conveners of the Textile Industry Jointly Support a Digital Platform to Enhance the Scaleup of a Circular Economy

In a landmark show of pre-competitive alignment, seven of the world's leading textile and apparel industry organisations have jointly endorsed a shared digital traceability platform as essential infrastructure for the circular economy transition. The joint statement — co-signed by organisations collectively representing over 2,000 brands, manufacturers, and industry bodies — marks a significant inflection point in the industry's approach to systemic change.

The organisations recognised that individual brand investments in proprietary traceability tools, while valuable, cannot alone create the market conditions needed for circular textile supply chains to scale. The fundamental challenge is a network effect problem: the value of traceability data increases exponentially with the number of participants in the system. A shared platform architecture, with appropriate data governance and commercial protections, can capture this value in a way that proprietary systems cannot.

The joint endorsement reflects months of behind-the-scenes negotiation on governance structures, data sharing protocols, and commercial terms. Reaching alignment across organisations with different membership bases, competing interests, and varying levels of digital maturity required significant diplomatic effort. The outcome demonstrates that the industry's recognition of existential risk from inaction on circularity is now strong enough to overcome traditional competitive barriers.

For Reverse Resources, the joint endorsement validates years of investment in open platform architecture and multi-stakeholder governance design. Our platform was built from the outset to operate as shared infrastructure rather than proprietary software — a design choice that required accepting slower initial growth in exchange for deeper structural integration with the industry ecosystem.

The practical next step is a coordinated rollout programme targeting factories across Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Turkey, and Morocco — geographies that collectively account for the majority of global garment production waste. With the backing of major industry conveners, we anticipate significantly accelerated adoption over the next 18 months.
